Since the bus was not ready we stayed in Fort Collins for New WestFest. 3 days of free music on 5 stages.
Our friends Jimjim and Martha came down from Carbondale, Co for the music fest. Jimjim, John, Martha and Bailey happy houring in the back yard. It rained a bit, then a rainbow over the WestFest.
John, Martha and Bailey listening too the New Ancients at the library stage.
Martha and Bailey. The next day we visited Claire at the Save the Poudre booth at the fest. Karen, Jimjim, Claire, Martha, John and Suep. Fun time visiting with friends.
We also ran into my niece Heidi with her three daughters Corah, Addie and Julie enjoying the festival. At dinner we had a pot luck in the backyard. Jimjim, John, Mark, Claire, Martha, Karen and Dave around the table. We could listen to the music, since the stage is right in front of the house.
Afterwards headliner Steve Miller was playing. The stage area was full, so outside the fence we could almost see the stage. Some of us moved to the simulcast at the library stage, John, Martha and I listened from our deck which is right behind the stage. Sounded great. The next night we did get into the stage area and listened to Rodrigo Y Gabriella. We could see the stage and the video screen of them.
Tues we headed out of Denver west. At the top of the foot hills is this great bridge with no supports in the middle and the mountains framed underneath. We went to Carbondale to take care of the dogs while Jimjim and Martha worked at the bike race over Independence pass. The view from the end of their street is yellow tansy and red cliffs .
We hiked on the Lorax trail over the hill from town. Scrub oak, pinion pine and utah juniper. Nice 4 mile hike.
View from the trail toward town. There is lots of smoke in the air from the fires out west. We walked both dogs right at sunset by the river.
Seen on our hike, Indian paintbrush, juniper berries, backlit oak leaves, sunflower and thistle.
