This is where the lower Elwha dam used to be. The took it and the upper one out and the salmon are running again. In the second shot John is in the middle of the photo standing where the dam was.
The Elwha river flowing free. A small water fall coming into it.
A shelter at Elwha campground with fall colors. The upper Elwha or Glines dam was here, all that is left is this spill way and a little on the other side.
Mills lake was behind Glines dam here, now the lake is gone and the Elwha river is flowing free and salmon are returning. It is a beautiful sight. A before shot on an interpretive sign.
We hiked to Madison falls. Beautiful mist in the trees.
The fog and mist dancing in the trees is really pretty. We visited the Elwha Klallam Heritage Center in downtown Port Angeles. These are the Indians that used to live where the town is now. They uncovered part of a village and some of the artifacts are here, along with art by the Klallam and a gift shop.
Some of today’s sights, an aster, pink flowers, a big leaf maple leaf, it is at least 10 inches across, snow berries. Shaggy mushrooms, yarrow and a thistle.
Wild parsley, clover, pearly everlastings and a thistle. Things are still blooming here.
