The sun was kind of in and out today between rain storms. What a treat.
I walked to Borrow Lake in the campground (Grayland State Park). It was very green and pretty.
Very green. After that we went into Westport to look at the big waves. There were surf warnings, 22 foot seas they said.
They were big, but not sure they were 22 feet. We were standing on top of a big observation tower watching. The first photo in the middle below the wave are a couple people so you can kind of see how big they are. The second photo the break water is at least 15 feet tall, the rocks are really big. Waves were coming up over them. A young man climbed to the top of the rocks and was washed back down toward the parking lot. These huge waves made lots of cool creamy foam.
More big waves. It was fascinating to watch the power. The same photo I took yesterday of the marina, but today no rain or fog.
The Maritime Museum. John standing in front of a yearling whale skeleton.
Mushrooms, many kinds of green stuff on the sides of the trees, salmon berry flowers and spruce cones. The last two are a HUGE ring in the wall of a concrete bunker at Battery Russell at Fort Stevens and thimble berry blossoms.
The Wilapa river entering Wilapa Bay. A rainbow over western Washington coast.
I think I take a photo of Rose Ranch every time I drive by. It is such a pretty green ranch. Welcome to Oregon.
The bus parked at Fort Stevens State Park campground, outside of Astoria, Wa. Some cannons at Fort Stevens . It was built sometime during the Civil War and used in WWII.
Beach at Fort Stevens State Park. The coast guard were doing surf work today at the beach. Not sure what that is, but in entailed a couple of helicopters and lots of big burly people in orange dry suits and life jackets.
Coast Guard Helicopter hovering over the surf. This big cement block near one of the batteries looks like a pagan alter or something with this foliage.
Bike path at Fort Stevens State Park, Wa.
