We had wanted to stay in the campground here, but it was full for the weekend. We were only 13 miles away. Rainy day in the 50’s.
On our way to the park we passed lots of Christmas tree farms. We picked a great day to hike the Trail of 10 Falls, they were having a marathon on the same trail, 2000 runners. Fortunately we started at mile 19 for them and the majority of them had already passed that point. Only about 3-400 passed us. No wonder the campground was full.
The trail went behind North Falls. The fall colors were nice too. This is temperate rain forest, so it rained most of the day. North falls is 136 feet high.
The CCC built this trail in the 1930’s. They always do a really good job. Me coming down some of the stairs. John walking in fall colors.
North Falls from the front. Fall leaves in a stream by the trail.
John behind Middle North Falls in his cagoule over his fanny pack. Maidenhair ferns were growing out of the canyon walls.
Middle North falls is 106 feet tall. Behind, well sort of beside the falls.
Cool moss covered trees with fall colors. Double falls is 178 feet tall.
Can’t remember the name of this first one but it had a nice pool at the bottom. Lower North falls is 30 feet high and very wide.
Nice mossy tree. Lower South Falls are 93 feet high.
Behind Lower South Falls looking out and looking at it from the front.
South Falls is 177 feet high. We had lunch behind it. South falls with fall colors.
South Falls lodge was built by the CCC in the 1930’s. It looked so warm and cozy after a long, wet, cold hike. But it was still two more miles to the car. John in some of the old growth forest with the BIG trees. Beautiful hike, well built trail and we are whupped.
