It was cool and rainy today, so we hiked in Grapevine Canyon just west of Laughlin.
John heading into the canyon. The canyon is known for it’s petroglyphs at the mouth of the canyon. Hundreds of them. The whole canyon is sacred to the Mohave Indians. It is right under Spirit mountain were they get guidence from the spirits and the Needle Mountains edging the canyon are where they believe the spirits cross between worlds.
The wild flowers were beautiful. John with flowers and with the grapevines the canyon is named for.
Some wildflowers seen.
John walking on the spine of the rock. The Needle mountains. By the time we got there it was a violent thunderstorm and the thunder was echoing back and forth across the canyon. Was really kind of spooky since it is where the spirits cross.
More wildflowers in the rain. It was coming down so hard we ducked into an alcove to get out of it and have lunch. Notice the waterfall across the canyon above Johns hands.
At the end of the canyon is this waterfall in an alcove. Lots of really cool shaped rocks.
John in the narrows of the canyon. Needle mountains and wildflowers.
More wild flowers. A nice little water feature.
Looking back toward Laughlin and the cool mountains on the other side.
Some of the wildflowers. I don’t know them all. Sacred Datura, vine flowers, phacilia, desert tobacco, senico and a cool big bug.
More flowers and bugs. Datura, misletoe berries, yellow flower, thistle, cactus and bug.
The cactus were very nice too. This is two different kinds of cacuts , tamarisk, willow catkin and desert nettles.
Lupine, fruiting cactus, vine and blue flowers.
The bottom row is a monkey flower, foam left over from the raging waters during the thunder storm, and a small fall. The desert is cool during rain, there are waterfalls everywhere.
Cholla blossoms, cool rocks and a rattle snake going the opposite direction we are.
