April 16-17, 2018 Big Creek Water Park, Soso, Mississippi

A pleasant 66 degree  sunny day.

We headed into Mississippi. There was beautiful red clover blooming alongside the road. A field of yellow with grazing cattle.

We have this lovely campsite by the lake at Big Creek Water Park. The latest in campware, a one piece jumpsuit with the cuffs tucked into cowboy boots, the sign for the tent sites, we passed Soso, Mississippi (Oh yes, I am from Soso, Miss. . .) When we stopped for a propane refill John had to maneuver the bus tightly against a roof overhang and to within 6 inches of the steel fence to get close enough, tight squeeze. The lake at the campground is pretty full from the big rain, it is way up over the grass at the shore.

View from the bus at dusk. I decided to paddle around on the lake. My favorite time of day for it. Looking back at the campground from the lake. If you look close you can see the bus in the trees in the middle of the photo.

At the end of the lake there were flooded trees I could paddle around in. This huge cabin rents for $105 a night, right on the lake. Almost in it today, the stairs in front go into the water.

Trees by the campground in sunset light. And sunset through more trees.

The masterpiece still in progress. While I sat in my lawn chair in the sun by the lake working on my basket John went to Slow Boat Brewing the local brewery in Laurel. You can't drink the beer there, you can only buy it and take it home. You can only get growlers or these smaller Crowlers. John with his crowler of Wayward son, Farmhouse IPA and dinner. Leftover calzones made from the meatballs and red sauce from the night before and roasted asparagus.

We are in a very rural ranching area. Cow in the middle of the road, dairy cows resting in front of a picturesque barn.

We went to Soso, Mississippi so John could mail a letter at the Soso post office. They also have the Soso Baptist Church , Soso Pawn and Gun shop, a gas station, western wear store and automotive. Not much else, rather Soso! Giant bug on the front of the bus, my lawn chair got bent when the bus drove over it, ducks I saw on the lake and I don't know what this tree is but I suspect it does not usually grow in the water, like it is now in the flooded lake.
Eastern Kingbird, Canada geese and three goslings, canada goose sitting on her nest giving me the go away eye and a white oak leaf. There are about 20 different kinds of oaks here.

The basket is coming along. Looking kind of funky on the side, but it will all pull together in the end I hope. Sunset while I was taking out from paddling around the lake.
