We attempted to hike Jayhawker Canyon. It is supposed to have a spring, petroglyphs and inscriptions from the Jayhawkers who hiked out this canyon in the 1800's. The trail description was a bit vague. Looking back down the canyon on the way up. John climbing a small fall.
I just kept getting steeper and rockier. Didn't look at all like the description. We must have gone up the wrong canyon so we turned around here. Here is the steeper and rockier.
The sun came out on the north end of Death Valley as we were hiking down. A sliver of sun shined on this butte.
John on an indistinct trail, which was much easier to see on the way down. A raven sitting on the sign for Panamint Springs Resort with a roadrunner on it. Towne Pass at 4956 feet is 5000 feet higher than Death Valley on the east side. Very steep drive. Cool rock marking and a cotton ball cactus.
The sun shining of Death Valley to the east of us. Cool light on cool rocks on the drive back.
There was a lake in the bottom of Panamint Valley from all the rain they had around Thanksgiving. The surrounding mountains reflected nicely in it. Some cracked mud and reflections.
More nice reflections in the lake. The sun setting on the west side of Telescope peak and the Panamint mountains from camp.
Sunset from camp.
