I woke up this morning with my eye looking like this. No idea where it came from. The road leaving Panamint Springs. These signs are what you see as you leave. Next Toilets in 45 minutes, Last gas 45 minutes and as you start up the pass this sign Avoid overheating Turn off A/C next 10 miles.
The bus at Stovepipe Wells campground in Death Valley. The campground is kind of a big gravel lot. Not many people are here so we have our own corner of it. It is 61 degrees and sunny. John on the roof cleaning the solar panels. We spent the afternoon sitting in lawn chairs in the sun. Very nice. Sunset behind the bus in our corner of the campground.
It was 69 and partly cloudy today. We successfully found Jayhawker Canyon. We hiked to Inscription rock and Jayhawker springs. This is the view on the way up the canyon. Inscription rock has petroglyphs and signatures of some of the 49er's who got trapped in Death valley on their way to California for the gold rush in 1849.It is believed that the Jayhawker bunch hiked out this canyon. Also are signatures of another group who came back to look for the rich silver mine they found on their way out and the chest of gold coins that they buried rather than carry it out. No one has found either.
View from lunch and some of the petroglyphs on the rock.
Looking back at the spring-the orange shrubbery on the right side and Inscription rock is the big one in the middle. John on the down.
Some canyons beyond where we started. John took this photo of me. Said the light looked good.
The sand dunes just east of the campground in evening light. There was no colorful sunset tonight. But the clouds had these weird shapes as it went down.
John BBQing dinner. The Xmas light on the General Store.
One of the neighbors decorated their 1950's trailer for Xmas.
