72 today and sunny. Windy, but not bad on the leeward, sunny side of the bus. Amazingly the park did not have any and only a few jet skis and was not full, so lots of space between people.. Very pleasant. Another lawn chair day.
John having a conversation with the road runner. It wanted us to feed him, John says no way. John found some shade to read and relax in this afternoon.
I finished this beauty yesterday, bur didn't get a photo till today. It is made from natural and dyed pine needles. The center is turquoise beads set in resin. The center and the top are surrounded with gem chips and misc. beads. The feather is from a duck on the beach where I was working on it. It is 6 1/4 x 3 inches. This basket I tried some alternative materials for basket making as an example for when I teach a class to my desert friends. The center is a piece of dichroic glass I fused and set in resin. The bottom is Palo Verde stems, the sides are a grass that is growing here in the park and the top is strips of fan palm fronds. The grass and palo verde stems are not as strong as pine needles, but look ok in the basket. I need some practice with the palm fronds, but all and all it came out cute. It is 5 1/2 x 3 inches.
This is the grass I used for the basket. I think it is an ornamental grass that escaped to the drainage ditch. Today was 73 and sunny. John on our walk to the end of the beach today on the Colorado River.
We saw this RV with the skidoo on the back and wondered how they got it off and into the water. Silly me, just drive the RV into the water and take it off. I bogarted John's semi shady spot and worked on my latest masterpiece today.
I took photos of all the things that passed by on the river today. A hooded merganser, Ring neck ducks, some young girls in the water. When their parents wanted to leave they said "we let you go drinking and gambling last night, let us stay longer" and they did. Seagulls, and some young men going in a circle in their skidoos, right in front of the young girls. A stand up paddle boarder, a kayaker, these folks in a camp down the beach are watching the super bowl and every time their team scores they run out and dunk in the river. On the way back she said "next time lets go naked", the tour boat from the Riverside Casino, a speed boat with two young girls with their hair blowing in the wind . This mallard kept staring at me, edging closer. I figured out I was taking the cap of the pine needles for the basket and throwing them on the ground. He must have thought it was food. A good time was had by all on the river today.
Sunset over the campground, river and the casinos. John cooked this fabulous dinner tonight. Killer San Marzano red sauce, pasta, and these gourmet meatballs that had ricotta, shallots, orzo, beef, cinnamon and nutmeg in them. No wonder I can't loose any weight. Thanks darling.
