63 and sunny today. We woke up and thought it was Weds, we paid for another night to relax at Island Acres. Then we realized it was Thursday and we were supposed to go to a first come first serve RV spot in Moab. Moab is full and this is high season here, so we had to take off Thurs and blow off our night at Island Acres or not get a spot. So we drove to Moab.
Good bye colorful Colorado and Hello Utah, life elevated. Right across the border is the Twilight Zone Alien Stupid Jerky store and gas station. Coming into Moab, Utah, red rock country with the snow covered La Sal Mountains in the background.
Beautiful, downtown historic Moab, Utah in a valley with red rocks on both sides. The bus in our overflow spot at the Moab Rim RV park. No hookups, but accesss to the bathrooms, water and dump. Our door mat , car and awning are in the next site on both sides. So far no one has come to the other sites and complained. We are surrounded by red rocks, it is lovely.
Tomatoes from Martha's garden for appetizers tonight. No clouds, but the rocks turned redder at sunset.
Today we went out to Dead Horse point State Park. It was 70 degrees and lovely. I don't remember ever having been here. The cliff behind John drops 2,000 feet to the river. The river below.
We hiked along the West Rim Trail-which was right on the edge of the cliff. Very beautiful.
A few flowers we saw. The neck is the narrowest part of the ridge. It drops off thousands of feet on both sides of the road. They used to herd livestock to the end and build a short fence to keep them in. Work has it that years ago some cowboys wild horse out there and didn't come back, so they died, and they named it Dead Horse point.
We hiked back on the east side of the point. John hiking on slick rock. John getting ready to dive off the overlook.
The view from the east side to the La Sal Mountains. On the way back we went to the Paleo Safari to see the Moab Giants. I can never pass these places up.
You have to watch out for these carnivorous dinosaurs.
These guys are herbivores.
Big herbivores. This guy looks pretty scary.
We had to watch where we were going, these guys thought we looked like tasty snacks. John didn't pay enough attention and this one got him.
This masterpiece basket is done. It is made with dyed pine needles, polyester thread, glass beads and a dichroic glass center that I fused. It is 6 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches. Sunset from our campsite tonight.
