70 and sunny. We went for a hike in Lower Butler Wash to a petroglyph panel.
I forgot my phone and since I was using it as my camera I didn't have it. I dug out my old phone from the car, which takes really bad photos and I don't know how to work it. So I was trying to take a photo, very frustrated and it was taking a selfie. Very pretty fall foliage in the canyon.
Sky rockets. A lot of the trail was through the lush undergrowth.
There was a small cliff dwelling. The view from the cliff dwelling.
From below the cliff dwelling is in the shadow. We hiked to the San Juan River, the huge wall to the right is covered in petroglyphs.
John photographing petroglyphs. A few of the petroglyphs.
Many of these petroglyphs were faint, but still cool. Afterwards we stopped at the Cafe across the street for apps and drinks.
Seen at a rest room this am. Please do not flush hopes and dreams! Hoodoo over town.
More hoodoos over town. We hiked just north of town to see some petroglyphs. They are at the base of this cliff. We had to scramble up about 400 over these boulders to get there.
John in the boulders. The first set of horses. They are about 6 feet tall. These are not ancient Anasazi petroglyphs since horses didn't make it here till they came with the Europeans. They think maybe Ute.
The second set of horses. There looked to be some older faded petroglyphs under them. Also a lot of modern day graffiti.
The town of Bluff down below. A holey rock.
There were a lot of pot shards too. And we found some older faded petroglyphs on a big rock below.
The cottonwoods are beautiful here. This afternoon we went to a party at the Twin Rocks Cafe. It was a party to thank vollunteers. There was live music, Navajo tacos and they said beer, but we didn't see any.
This lovely 18 year old with a great voice was part of the live entertainment.
