December 8-11, 2021 Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, Arizona

Med 70's and sunny. We are still just hanging out, enjoying the great weather.

We went to Ajo to grocery shop. Welcome to Ajo and the downtown square. The grocery store was out of onions and jalapenos due to supply shortages.

We stopped at the Why not travel store in Why looking for onions. They don't see veges. Nice fountain and mural out front. Ajo Mountain from the Ajo Mountain pull out.

Today we went to Lukeville, on the border of Arizona and Mexico. The port of entry. The area is called Gringo Pass. We had our mail forwarded to the Gringo Pass post office and they tried to return it to sender because they didn't know who we are. John talked to them and it had not gone back yet. They wanted to see our campsite paperwork to give us our mail, so we went back and got it and they gave us the mail. The gas station there says Welcome back to your first stop in the USA. $4.01 for unleaded gas. I finished up this batch rainbow earrings. I made the glass in Colorado and just got to making them into earrings.

Sunset tonight in the campground. This morning we were surrounded by law enforcement vehicles. They were actually at the site in front of us, we never did find out what happened, but it was interesting.

Law enforcement around the bus.

A light came on the dashboard, John is trouble shooting.  Beautiful desert  behind the bus.

John on our evening hike. Another wonderful sunset tonight.

Caution smuggling and/or illegal immigration are common in this area due to the proximity to the international border. Please be aware of your surroundings at all times and do not travel alone in remote areas. This sign was on the trail we hiked today. We also saw a border patrol guy driving down the trail, he said to be careful there is a lot of illegal activity in this area right now. We hiked to Victoria Mine. This is one of the buildings still standing sort of at the site. Very pretty hike.

Views on the hike to Victoria mine today. It is such a lush desert here.

There is the silhouette  of a cactus wren in this cholla cactus. They build their nests in these. This is a sign about social distancing, but in the lower corner is says Still don't use slower friends as bear bait!!
