Decrmber 17-18 , 2012 Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, Arizona

 62, party cloudy and windy.

Finished these up this week. Sunset tonight.

Almost full moon in sunset tonight. Cool colors in sunset.

The last gasp of sunset. Today was 64 degrees and sunny, and windy. We hiked the Red Tanks trail. John on the trail

These are the Red Tanks or tinajas. They are three rock pot holes where water can pool after a storm. These water sources are very important to the animal survival in the desert. They were dry today.  The trail after the tinajas is down the arroyo. There are tire tracks in it. The smugglers use it as a route and the border patrol patrol it.

We saw wildlife. A tarantula. Rocks on the side of the arroyo.

On the middle left are cement jersey barriers across the arroyo to slow down illegal traffic. John hiking back toward the car.

Lots of rocky mountains here, very rough terrain here. John on the trail in a saguaro forest.

More interesting saguaros today. We passed an old mine. The shaft is covered with a grill. A water trough at the mine.

Driving through a saguaro forest. Sunset.

Full cold moon rising in the sunset.
