Our plan was to drive to a casino on the Jicarilla Apache indian reservation and stay in their RV park and visit Chaco Canyon.
Driving down route 66 past the Route 66 Casino toward Alburqueque-Sandia mountain overlooking the city.
West of I-25 is the Zia Pueblo and mission on the Rio Grande River. The pueblo’s ancient sun symbol was chosen to adorn the state flag of New Mexico. Photos are not allowed at the pueblo, I hope that does not apply to photos taken from the highway. Scenery along the road on the Jemez Indian reservation.
Rain on the plain. This is a very empty stretch of highway. Miles and miles of reservations. We arrived at the Apache Nugget casino to find out they no longer do the RV park thing, even though their website said they did and some one John talked to on the phone. There is literly no where to park the RV for 82 miles between Cuba, New Mexico and Farmington. It is either private oil company property or reservation. Chaco is right between them. Not even a Walmart.
So we forged on to Farmington in the rain. We are now camped at the McGee park/ San Juan county fairgrounds. They have 400 sites. Only $20 a night. As a plus there is a carnival and dog show this weekend. Plus there is a casino and horse racing track on the fairgrounds. Much nicer than the Apache Nugget right next to the highway in the middle of nowhere.
This rainbow seen from the fairgrounds this afternoon seemed kind of flat. Usually they arch way into the sky, this one stayed low. We got our own corner of the RV park next to the San Juan River.
Welcome to historic downtown Farmington. Three Rivers Brewery takes up a half a block. The resturant, next door is the pizzaria and next door to that is the taproom/gaming room.
John having an American IPA. What a place, Yoga and Beer and a Husband Day Care Center!! Fog lifting over the San Juan River from our window this am.
