November 5, 2018 Cape Arago, Oregon

We only moved 60 miles south to Cape Arago, just west of Charleston, Oregon. It rained in the early am, then on our drive south the sun came out. 50's. We have never seen coast this sunny.

Scenes from the drive. The marina in Charleston, Or.

The bus at bastendorff Beach County Park.  It is kind of a dark-in the trees and muddy campground. It is probably great in the summer, but this time of year it is kind of depressing. The upper sunnier and drier loop is closed for the season. John scored the only site with sunshine. Last time we were here our car was robbed. We left it unlocked, but still. Nothing is unlocked now. There are not many campgrounds on the cape. The state campground the sites are too short for our bus and this is cheaper and has internet. It is on a cliff overlooking the beach and has a nice beach below. The scenery on the cape is spectacular so it is worth being out here. So far we are having a better experience than last time. We hiked down a steep cliff to this cove at the end of the cape at low tide to see the tide pools.

Rocks on the beach. Looking back at the beach from the tide pools. The rocks around the pools are wet and slippery. Great place for someone as klutzy as I am, but I didn't fall.

Tide pools.

The tide pools were pretty much full of sand and seaweed. But we found a few gems. Anemones, sea star, chitin, snail. The anemones close up when they are exposed above water, cool seaweed, limpet,   and another closed anemone that is the size of a baseball.

Great blue heron and a crab. Reflection of the cliff and clouds in a tide pool.

Someone built a hobbit house in the cliff and these cairns were in front of it. A taco looking anemone and tiny fish in the tide pools.

This tiny pool was the had the most life in it, but he rest were pretty uninhabited. Cool huge rocks on the beach.

Sunset looking right, sunset looking left.

More sunset. The masterpiece is coming along.
