November 7-8, 2018 Cape Arago, Oregon

In the 50's and clear, but windy. Very cool.

We tried to hike out to Yoakum Point State Natural area. It does not have a real trail, just some social trails.  We wondered around in the woods then found this. There is a nice trail straight down to a small cove that we didn't take. It was cold so we gave up for today. When we got back I looked it up on the internet and the actual point is what is in the first photo. We will have to go back and try again. There is a great view of the lighthouse from where we were.

So I started putting blue some beads on the basket. Then went down to the beach here at the campground for a walk around sunset. The rocks in the background are where the light house is. It was so cold I wore a t shirt, heavy fleece top, heavy fleece jacket, gortex jacket with the hood up and a buff as a balaclava on my neck and over my head. I think I wear less clothes skiing in the snow.

Beach grass and sunset.

Today we made it out to Yoakum Point. It borders the beach at the campground we are at. Looking down on Bastendorff Beach. Looking out to the point. Last time we were here we walked out to the point at very low tide.

John in the gap. Simpson Reef is one of the largest haul outs of sea lions, stellar and harbor seals in this area. You can hear all the barking.

We had lunch on this nice sunny point on the cliff. Twin trees, an immature amanita mushroom and a newt on the trail. They blend right in.

We hiked along to Simpson Beach.  John taking photos inside this cave at Simpson
Beach.

There are a really cool rocks at Simpson Beach.

Some of the cool rocks. Snails with barnacles, sea stars in the tide pools.

Cute little tide pool. Mussels, reflections. The last one is a reflection on tiny sea snails.

Turtle back looking rocks. All the cracks are full of tiny sea creatures. Snails and limpets inside the holes in the rocks,a concreation- which is a round rock formation and twisted trees on the trail.

Concretion is cool rocks, tiny mushrooms, and sitka spruce trucks. There were areas of thick lush foliage with tunnels on the trail. The top one had a heart shaped opening. I thought John going into the tunnel of Love.

Many huge old growth trees. We also hiked down to North Cove Beach.

Sunset on the sand. North Cove beach is just opposite the reef with the seals. Right at sunset this seal sat up and posed for us in the sunset.
