May 4, 2021 June Lake, California

In the 70's ,sunny and very pleasant.

Driving by Mono Lake. Welcome to Bodie, California. Bodie was a huge gold mining town  between 1877-1881 with a population of 10,000 people. There were 110 mines around town, 65 saloons, 18 boarding houses and more. 200 buildings are now standing, only 5% of what used to be there. It is now preserved as a state park.

The old general store. A view of the buildings in Bodie, California

The bank burnt down, all that is left is the vault. Coffins in the morgue and inside the school house.

The Standard mill above Bodie. In the summer you can get a tour of the stamp mill. The ground is unstable and unsafe so we could not go up there. A view of Bodie from the cemetery.

A banner in June lake that says The simple pleasures for all seasons, a grave in Bodie that says Hello God, I've just arrived here from Bodie. I am the last of the old time miners, 2 other nice grave stones.  The view of the eastern Sierras leaving Bodie.

Beautiful, historic downtown Bridgeport, California. We went to Bridgeport to go to the Big Meadow Brewing co for John's tour of breweries in the USA. It was closed when we arrived, so we toured Bridgeport. When we came back it was still closed. We were informed by a gentleman that it was closed today because he just got back from an 800 mile road trip and needed to rest.

The Mono County courthouse in Bridgeport. It was built in the 1800's.  The community church in Bridgeport.

In Bridgeport you could only park by back in angle parking.  A statue in top of the E Clampus Vitus monument by the courthouse. A sgn on the courthouse telling you what you cannot bring in, including scissors, screw drivers, metal combs, ice picks, letter opener knitting needles and multi tools. Sierra Strange was a strange store with a lot of big foot paraphernalia. Grant Lake on the June lake loop road.
