November 15, 2022 Truth or Consequences, New Mexico

 57 and partly sunny.

Egad! The forecast is for snow tonight. We are almost to the Mexican border, not much farther south we can go to escape the cold. This is from the Spaceport America visitors center. We have tickets to tour the real site on Saturday.

Welcome to Truth or Consequences, mural on the water tower, mural of Geronimo, Giddy-up Cafe. It is still warm enough for roses here, mural, Save the Boobies on a car that drove by us, Dude motel and apartments.

The catholic church. Beautiful, historic .downtown Truth or Consequences.

John and his alien friends. We went to the Geronimo Springs museum. Next door is this kind of ceramic art park.

Some of the amazing pot displays in the museum. In the Geronimo museum, Geronimo, The cowboy uses of a bandana and Ralph Edwards, the MC of the Truth or Consequences TV show. In 1950  radio host Ralph Edwards offered to broadest the 10th anniversary episode of his Truth or Consequences game show from the first town to rename itself after it. Hot Springs became Truth or Consequences on March of that year.

One of many arrowhead displays in the museum, mastodon skull, space ship on the way home, mural downtown. and in the museum these two mural sized paintings of Juan De Ornate who lead the Spanish into this area and populated it, and Geronimo had on very skimpy costumes. We stopped at the brewery so John could taste on of their IPA's.

Back at camp I went for a walk on the lake shore. My GPS said I was walking on water. But really the lake is that low. Elephant Butte lake shore.

I didn't check the mound under this cross, but I am pretty sure it is not a grave. The lake through some bluestem joint fir bushes. They look just like ephedra or Mormon tea that I am used to farther north, but the leaves are very skinny.

Looking toward Elephant Butte  Lake. from closer to camp. Mural downtown, mural of Greetings from Hot Springs historic district of Truth or Consequences , NM, the local grocery store is named Bullocks and tomorrow night Igor and the Red Elvis's are playing in town.
