November 2-4, 2022 Albuquerque, New Mexico

High of 69 and sunny. We drove to Albuquerque. We were going to tomorrow, but heavy rain and snow were predicted for the route tomorrow, so we came today.

There is not a lot between Farmington and Albuquerque. Mostly a few small towns, reservations and oil land. We drove past the Navajo reservation, through the Jicarilla Apache reservation, to the continental divide at 7.380 feet, and  through Cuba. The farther east we went the cheaper the fuel was. We stopped and topped off in Albuquerque at $4.65 a gallon. Had to run the card twice. The last time we filled up it was $5.19 in Monticello and we thought Farmington was pretty good with $5.15. Not sure if fuel prices are going down or if they are just cheaper here.

We are in Albuquerque just west of town at the American RV resort next to a park model cabin with no one in it and a bunch of trees. Sunset near the horizon tonight.

Sunset above the horizon tonight. I finished this basket. It is 7 1/2 x 6 1/2 x 2 inches. It is made from dyed pine needles, polyester thread and glass beads. The center is a piece of dichroic glass that I fused.

I also finished this one too. 7 x 6 x 3 inches. It is made from dyed pine needles, glass beads and polyester thread. The center is a piece of dichroic glass I fused. Downtown Albuquerque with a huge storm cloud over head.

We visited the National museum of Nuclear Science and History. It was an excellent museum. This is a mock up of the lab they developed the first nuclear bomb in. Many of the instruments and furniture are original. It was during world war II and it was so top secret they called it the gadget instead of a bomb.

A mock up of the lab where they developed the first nuclear bomb. The spherical object in the middle is the bomb they called Gadget. Models of Little Boy and Fat Boy, the bombs dropped on Japan in WW II.

Indoor and outdoor exhibits of ballistic missiles.  A copy of the 100 foot Trinity Bomb tower they used to test the first atomic bomb, nicknamed the gadget. And a model of the gadget.

A display of common everyday items that are radio active, including smoke detectors, brazil nuts, salt substitute, instant coffee, condensed milk, dentures and sensodyne toothpaste. A display of different uranium ores, Miss Atomic Bomb, a Las Vegas show girl with a mushroom cloud dress.

After the Nuclear museum we went to the Bombs Away brewery for a taste. John with his Bombs Away IPA. It was cold- 47 for the high, windy and partly cloudy today. Good day to hang out inside.  Sunset over the RV park tonight. There were not many clouds, but the sky and the snow covered Sandia peaks were pretty.

This basket has a mind of it's own. The center is a beautiful painted rock that I traded a Navajo artist a piece of my glass jewelry for on the Navajo reservation. It's irregular shape required  all these twisty, turny coils to get it set into the basket. It is 6 1/2 x 8 x 3 inches at this point. Looking cool. Front and back.
