We crossed the Connecticut river into New Hampshire. We parked in River Meadow RV park in North Haverhill, NH. Then headed to the gorge. It is 3oo foot deep gorge in Kinsman Notch in the White mountains. Water seeped into cracks in the walls expanded as it froze and split away massive blocks of granite that tumbled into the gorge, stacking up and hiding the river in places, hence the name ’lost’. There is a loop trail with boardwalks and stairs and views of the river as it cascades over, around and under the huge moss covered boulders. You can go down ladders into lantern-lit caves among the rocks.
The RV park, although a nice park was no where near as nice as all of our previous weeks spots, and it was the first time in a week we had to pay for a spot. The steps down into the gorge. They said 300 steps down with a total of 1000 steps, but John counted them and he got 1321 steps.
the river, John on the boardwalk in the gorge.
John in one of the caves ahead of me. More river reappearing from under the boulders.
The waterfall in the giant pothole. Another view of the falls-a panorama I took.
very, very green, John entering another of the caves.
They were lantern lit. Good thing, I am kind of claustrophobic. River
The rocks were beautiful, John on his hands and knees entering another cave. We had to belly crawl in a couple spots.
Cracked boulders, John crawling into another cave
John ahead of me in the waterfall room, here is the waterfall just past him.
Light coming in the top of a cave, and the guillotine rock over a walkway. The rock at the end here they called the obelisk.

the view back down into the gorge at the steps, The view of the mountains east.
maple leaves, leaves in the river
