September 9, 2012 Vermont and Fort Ticonderoga

Today was sunny, calm and cool. It got down to 53 degrees last night. Very different than yesterday.

Lake Champlain was almost calm today. We drove to Fort Ticonderoga in New York.  The fort played a pivotal role in both the French and Indian war and the American Revolution.  Originally built by the French in 1755 to control the narrow shipping point on Lake Champlain, it was captured by the British forces in 1759.  In 1775 Ethan Allen and his Green mountain boys and Benedict Arnold, took the fort from the British for the first victory of the American Revolution. The fort is fully restored on the original Foundations and according to the French plans.

Here is a model of what the fort looks like.  A photo of the troops and cannon in the courtyard thru a distorted window.

The map of the maze. The map is finally finished and hung up in the bathroom, with our route so far on it.
