We went into Littleton to stock up on groceries and check out the Oasis Brewery. Grocery store was good, the brewery served a good lunch but their beer was bad.
The Gables, a Victorian house in Bethlehem, NH. This was at a transmission place in Littleton. A technician shoved into a transmission. I know the feeling.
Rhino seen at a shop, a gristmill on the Ammonoosuc river through Littleton, taken from a covered bridge.
When we got back we hiked up the valley. The Appalachian Mountain club maintains trails and has 2 lodges, 8 huts a days hike apart. I wanted to see the hut, but it was late, we have to come back tomorrow. The AMC does some nice water bars.
This part of the trail could use some work. I think this trail in this swampy river bottom is a continuous job. Prime moose habitat. A couple lichens in the forest.
Michael is from Alaska, he is traveling around the country and camping. He is writing a book about his travels called ‘My golf clubs ride shot gun’. Here he is with his golf clubs. The Zealand river has lots of color this time of year.
color on the beaver ponds in the swampy meadow. More prime Moose habitat.
The bottom of the Zealand falls. The Zealand hut. Pretty nice for a hut. You need reservations way in advance, these huts are popular and the trail is well used.
bunks in the hut, looked like they housed well over 50 people a night . They serve meals, this is the kitchen. The hut is situated right at the top of the falls. Nice ambiance.
Sue and John at the top of Zealand falls. We had lunch here.
Color on the way back.
Sugar maple leaves
Many of the trees have already dropped their leaves, mostly the ones on the ridge. We decided to take the ski trail back through this area, the trail was just huge boulders. I can see why they don’t use it in the summer, it was a bog, very muddy, but the moss was pretty.
ski trail.
