We are on a spit of sand of the coast of Washington on the Hidden coast.
Rain and fall color driving through Humptulips. Named after the Humptulips river. The name comes from a Anglo version of an Indian word meaning swift water. We are at Ocean City State park. The borchure says all sites are within a 15 minute walk of the beach. Birds on the beach.
John leaping a rivulet of water on it’s way to the ocean. Reflection of clouds.
Sand dunes and sea grass. Reflections.
I picked up these shells at Hobuck beach near Cape Flattery up north. Sand dollars the size of my hands. Lots of colorful small shells for baskets. I love sand dollars, I just can walk by them on the beach without picking them up.
You can drive cars on the beach. I imagine that driving on velvet soft sand on top of a packed base might be like skiing in powder. You can also ride bikes. We did that once and spent months trying to get the salt and sand off the chain and metal parts. The cloud deck was low, so we had a strip kind of sunset. The sand is dark here and the waves leave white foam on it when it recedes.
Sunset. John photographing his feet in the ocean sunset for his Chaco’s album.
Razor clam shells. The season on them is open, you can rent shovels and buckets ,get a license and hunt them, some kind of beach debris, a moon jelly, crab. Lots of dead crabs, must be a good place to hunt for them too. Patterns in the sand.
Wild flowers in bloom. Salal flowers, yellow flower, yellow iris, yellow flower, dark pink bi colored clover, aster.
Warning signs at the beach. The whole coast of Washington and Oregon is a tsunami zone. There is a fault right off the coast and an earthquake can cause a tsunami at anytime that can wipe out the coast. There are rip tides, big waves and huge logs in the surf.
