October 21, 2013 Portland, Oregon

We went to north east Portland to have dinner with Alison and Matt. We are staying in southwest Portland, so we left early so we could beat rush hour traffic. We visited Crystal Springs Rhododendron garden.

Beautiful fall colors  and evening light at the garden. There are  lakes, fountains, waterfalls, birds and some flowers. The gardens have 2,500 azaleas and rhododendrons, but they mostly bloom in the spring. I imagine the gardens are stunning in the spring. But some were blooming and it was lovely.

Afternoon light on the lawn. Rhododendron trunks are wonderfully contorted.

Fountain and fall colors. I have never seen so many wood ducks on one place , especially ones that let us get close enough to photograph them. They are such showy birds.

More wood ducks with fall colors. We also saw lots of mallards , canada geese and probably more birds that I don’t know. A tree above me had these red flowers.

This rhododendron bush is blooming . After the garden we went to Alison Starkey and Matt Morozovsky’s house and had a fabulous bbq pork dinner and had a great visit.  Alison is my brother Ray’s, wife’s sister.

Blooming rhododendrons and azaleas. I don’t know which one is which, they are in the same family, and look pretty much the same to me beautiful.
