Cape Flattery is the northwesternest point in the continental USA. Where the San Juan De Fuco strait meets the Pacific ocean.
The cape is on the Makah Indian Reservation. They built this wonderful 3/4 mile cedar boardwalk to the overlooks on the cape. View looking south. If you look close there is a whale there. All we saw was the spout and his back a couple times.
Sea caves at Cape Flattery, and looking north.
Sue hanging out over the view. Next we hiked to Shi Shi beach. The Makah Indians built another wonderful cedar boardwalk to the border of their reservation.
Then you come to the National Park. No closed signs, so hopefully we were not outlaws today. Us and about 100 other people. As soon as we came to the park the trail became a muddy mire.
The trail down the cliff to the beach was very steep, but I don’t think you would need this rope unless the trail was wet, which it probably is since it rains all the time here. Looking down at the beach from above.
Shi Shi beach is one of the most beautiful and pristine beaches. Probably because you have to hike 3 miles each way to it. You can keep hiking down the coastline a long way, the Olympic National park protects miles of coastline here. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, beautiful beach, beautiful day.
Sea gull overhead. A piece of kelp, looks like hair on fire to me!
A storm is moving in this evening, here it is over the Point of Arches, time to head back. Look, John found a swing on the beach. . .
Seeing double- two combined photos of us on the same point.
