July 18-19, 2014 Alma, Colorado

We came to Alma to visit Martha and Jimjim and to attend the Festival of the clouds.

Alma is the highest city in the USA at 10,578 feet. It has about 400 residents. Downtown Alma.

We are parked right next to and plugged into Martha and Jimjim’s High house.  We toured the local pot store. They are all different. There is an inset on the lower right of the photo showing the license to sell legal marijuana, next to some of there pots, I liked the Death Star one. These are a great money maker for the governments. This store pays 17% tax and the one we looked at in Denver pays 23%.

Jimjim working on his car in front of the High house. He has been working on the house for about 27 years and is almost done now. Here is the tile work behind the wood burning stove.

Mandy stopped by to visit and got attacked by our attack snake. The garage next to the house was an original structure that was on the property when they bought it.

I went to the library book sale at the festival. They showed us the town library. The miners wives in the 1800’s got bored being snowed in all winter so they raised money and started the library. They took the train into Denver and bought the books, one book at a time. The upper shelves are some of the original books in the library and the lower shelves are books that are currently  available  to check out. The festival had some great music. The Alma belly dancers also put on a great show.

They sold hula hoops at the festival and everyone was hooping to the music. One of the things the money from the festival bought  is this beautiful playground for the kids. The kids were having a great time, and I am sure ignoring the music.

Zoe, Martha, John and Fat Albert on the back step. There were more people hooping  than dancing to the music. I fit right in. I even learned some more tricks.

Martha and Jimjim at dinner, with the sun in their eyes.  This group the No Joe’s are only 17 years old, and have been playing together for 7 years since they were 10 years old. They are great. Better than the headliner band. They are friends of Martha and Jimjim so they are also  staying at the house.

A couple of signs in town. Alma is right south of Hoosier Pass, so they have the Hoosier Daddy Liquor store, and at the park a sign that says all dogs must be attached 2 owner.
