We drove to South Dakota. We camped at Comanche forest service camp ground. Comanche is the name of the horse who was the last living thing left standing of the US army at Custer's last stand. Lovely quiet campground.
Crazy Horse Memorial is near Mount Rushmore, to show that the Indians also have heros and important men. When Crazy Horse was asked where his lands were he pointed and said his lands were where his dead were buried and pointed. It does not look like much is done on this, but it is much, much bigger than Mount Rushmore and if you saw the picture of the mountain before they started you can see they have removed a huge amount of rock. The second photo is a drawing of what it will look like when it is done.
John is standing in front of the model of what it will look like, in front of the actual sculpture. The tipi is inside the large Indian museum they have at the memorial. The memorial is not a federal site, it is a private site funded with donations.
This is one of the first compressors used in building the memorial. After Crazy horse we went to Hill City. A cute little mountain tourist town up the road.
We stopped at the Naked Winery, which is also Sick-N-Twisted microbrewery. How convenient. I could taste wine and John could taste beer in the same place. Our bartender (who was not naked) posing with the wines. You probably can’t read the names of the wines, but they all have to do with sex. She is holding the Climax Red. She started me out with Missionary Red-how boring and ended with Climax red.
Some of the glittery T shirts in their gift shop. Appropriate for Naked winery. John seated in front of the mirror at Chute Rooster steak house where we had dinner.
Custer City has Flintstones Campground and Theme park. You have to pay to go inside and ride the little train and view Fred and Barney etc. These are a few photos from what is in the parking lot. Dino, the drive in, the gate, behind the bone fence, John serving ribs at the drive in, a phone booth and gift shop. We did not stay in the campground.
