Katy, Katie and I took a road trip to Canon City to boat the Royal gorge with our good friend Dennis who owns Raftmaster Rafting.
We stopped and had a picnic lunch with Vickie a friend of Katy’s who lives in Canon City. At Raftmasters we were confronted with this warning. Duh, white water rafting is dangerous. . .
Heading down the Royal gorge. A very deep narrow gorge cut by the Arkansas river. It is full of class III and IV rapids. Dennis is at the back, telling us when to paddle. Katy and Katie are on the back right, I am on the back left, out of sight.
I met Dennis 25-30 years ago skiing. About 20 years ago he told me he was going to start a rafting company on the Royal Gorge. I of course did not believe it would happen, but I was proved wrong. Raftmasters is now a huge very successful company. In the second photo is my smiling face on the back left. Everyone else has their eye on the huge rapid ahead of us, I smiled for the camera. . .
Yup, big rapid. One of many. We all got wet, we all had a good time. The river was at a fun level, 1700 cfs, very bouncy and didn’t terrify me.
Afterwards we took Dennis out to dinner at the brewery. Katy, Dennis, Katie and Suep.
