John’s hip was bothering him on his backpack. After 25 miles in 2 days. Must have been the heavy pack. I went to pick him up in Amargosa Valley.
Wind on the playa. Dust hazard- it was like driving into a cloud.
More dust. I went by the school in Amargosa Valley on the way and saw this sign, their team is called the Sandblasters. How appropriate!!
On Friday we spent the night at Amargosa Hotel. It is a stop on the B2B hike Judy is on. She always spends the night there and we had a room too. Marta Becket opened the hotel and opera house in 1968. Marta painted murals in both. Here are the cherubs in our room.
My cherub under one on the wall. We brought dinner and heated it up in the dining room. Marta painted the arch and window on the wall here. We invited a nice lady named Sharon from New York to join us since she thought there was a resturaunt there and there wasn’t, so she had no food. She is a travel writer in the area. Hopefully she will write about the opera house.
There was a performace at the opera house tonight so we attended. Marta also painted the walls and ceiling of the opera house. Marta performed ballet and pantomine here from 1968- 2007. She was a famous dancer from New York who retired here in her 40’s and created the Opera house and danced till she was 83. Jenna saw Marta dance when she was 6 and camping in Death Valley. She decided then to become a ballerina. She went on to be a famous ballerina in the bay area. She came to thank Marta for inspiring here 2 years ago, and decided to stay and carry on Marta’s legacy. She is now performing some of Marta’s pieces and some of her own. Here she is dancing Marta’s the Kewpie doll which is all on point.
She also performed one of Marta’s The Gossips. She portrays 3 people, 2 gossipy women and the cabaret dancer they are gossiping about. It is hilarious. She uses Marta’s backdrops and costumes and she looks just like Marta did when she did these. In the last shot she is performing one of her own dances,Dream Weaver.
Some of the memorabilia from Marta’s performances in the hotel lobby. First light on the hotel.
We stopped on the way back to pull John’s things out of the cache by the Amargosa River. Eagle mountain is in the background. Some blooming flowers by the river.
My jewels displayed at the Tecopa Trading Post. They look good. A hummer at the feeder.
I am kind of still working on this mini basket. Water fall on the Amargosa river in Shoshone.
More falls on the river. The moon rising behind desert golds.
Moon rise.
