John, Judy and Jill starting the hike from Zabriski point to Golden Canyon. A personal favorite of mine. View of Manly Beacon.
John heading down toward Golden Canyon with the Death Valley floor in the background. I take this photo of this curly cue every time I walk by it.
Jill in the slot canyon to Red Cathedral. Canyon at the base of Red Cathedral.
Judy is saying to Jill—“DO NOT touch the poisonous purple flower”, Jill saying—“Mom I can’t help myself.” John in Golden Canyon.
A view of the snow covered summit of Telescope Peak over Golden Canyon. Every night before dinner we have cocktails and snacks on the patio in front of our room at sunset.
Jill-Judy’s daughter and my niece in her dinner finery. Suep and Laurie-Judy’s husband wore matching shirts tonight.
The next day we hiked the Gower Gulch-Golden canyon loop. Here are Jill, Judy, Gabriella and John on the trail at the mouth of Gower Gulch. Looking into Gower Gulch.
Jill on the trail between the two canyons. View from the top toward Death Valley.
During the hike the talk of dinner tonight became so complicated that Judy whipped out a clipboard and wrote a flow chart for dinner. . . There was a rare sighting of Judy wearing shorts today.
We spent the afternoon around the pool. It was almost 90 degrees and it was wonderful. Afternoon light on the garden and Furnace Creek Inn. It is a true oasis in the desert.
John and Laurie had a drink in the bar for our friend Neils who could not make the trip this year. After dinner the girls Jessica, Jill and Gabriella chose jewel gifts.
Jill with two drinks, her glass of wine from dinner and a glass of ice wine after dinner. A parting shot that John took of me in the badlands.
