January 10, 2020 Nopah mountains, Shoshone, California

High 50's and sunny, bit windy.

We hiked into the Nopah mountains today with the Tecopa Hiking Club. Been wanting to hike into them for a while. They are really rugged looking mountains.  The red arrow points to the canyon we hiked to.   Roger and John are wearing their buffs. Roger wears two to keep the sun off him. John is camouflaged.

The group hiking toward the Nopahs. it is 7 miles round trip with 1,500 feet vertical.

At the end of the canyon is a bubbler. It is water for the mountain sheep. There is a small dam on drainage that has a pipe that goes to the tanks. Then the water goes to a drinking device for the sheep. Lunch at the bubbler. Roger is brewing coffee. One cup for him and one for everyone else. He says he will make everyone one, but we have to carry our own water and cup. Full service trip leader.

Looking down the canyon on the way out. Some of the rugged looking rocks in the Nopah mountains.

The mouth of  the canyon we just came out of. Jim and Roger coming down from the canyon.

The group walking back down to the cars. The cars look really, really far away. Looking back at the canyon we hiked out of at the red arrow.

Bailey wanted to come home with us. She sneaked unnoticed into my seat in the car. Cotton top cactus, seed heads, John says these rocks are fossils, but they looked like squished pebbles to me, an early blooming flower, hedge hog cactus and a mountain sheep skull.
Sunset tonight from the bus.
