November 15, 2021 Socorro, New Mexico

A balmy 73 and sunny. We drove down to Socorro, New Mexico.

Weird looking rest stop in at Walking Sands. The big squares are picnic shelters. We are back to where the autumn leaves are still on the trees.

We are parked at the Socorro Rodeo and Event center in a nice secluded spot.  I finished this green basket a while ago, but finally got good photos of it. It is 6 x 2 1/2 inches, made with dyed pine needles, polyester thread, glass and metal beads. The center is a piece of dichroic glass that I beveled and polished.

I worked on this basket as we drove today. I need to add beads to it and it will be done. An abandoned church we drove by.

Cool lines along the road. We met our friend Jeff and his friend Karen at the Bosque Del Apache wildlife refuge to watch birds. These are snow geese.

Closer up of the snow geese.

View from the Flight Deck were we sat to view birds. John with his point and shoot by many people with very, very long lenses on their cameras.

The main attraction here are the sandhill cranes who winter here. The cranes are in the front of the photo, behind and above are snow geese. Northern pintails, cranes and snow geese.

Autumn leaves. It was crowded with real bird watcher and photographers. Jeff is second from the right taking photos.

The crowd on the Flight Deck, all with very nice cameras and long, long lenses. The majority of the cranes flew in after the sun went down.

Sandhill cranes in the sunset with the waxing gibbous moon.

Sunset on the water.
