May 1-2, 2024, Brookings, Oregon

High of 59, sunny and windy.

We took the Rock Trail down to the beach today. It was low tide and we were visiting the tide pools.

There was not much in the tide pools. Too much sand I think in many of them. This round rock somehow made it into this slot in the driftwood, turban snails, green sea anemone, ridged limpet, closed anemones, two green sea anemones, more closed anemones and a sea star.

Tide pool and just puddles on the beach.

More pools and puddles. Lots of sea stars, most were crammed in cracks or piled up on one another. Big and little mussels.

Wavy beach puddle, stream crossing the beach.

Cool driftwood beach shelter- even has a basket ball in it. I finished this basket today. It is made from dyed pine needles, wire grass, glass, clay, gem stone and metal beads, polyester thread and the center is a piece of glass I enameled petroglyphs onto. It is 10 x 9 x 2 1/2 inches.

We went to the Azalea park here in Brookings to view azaleas and rhododendrons. It was beautiful.

We stopped at Misty Mountain brewery. We had looked for them before but could not find them. Today we found them in the basement of a strip mall. John had Elvan IPA and I had a really good cranberry cider. The west was socked in clouds tonight, but there was a little pink in the open sky to the south, It is supposed to rain the rest of the week.

It rained all night. I thought it was going to rain all day, but it cleared at mid day and was a lovely sunny day. On my way down to the beach for sunset. A knot on a driftwood log, a pacific side band snail and a bubble.

Sunset tonight. First time I have seen sanderlings in a while. A few were running back and forth with the waves at sunset.

Sunset.
