January 27, 2014 Las Vegas, Nevada

We loaded up the bus and went to Las Vegas. We are camped at Red Rock Canyon, just to the west of Las Vegas. In the AM we dropped the bus off at Cummins for oil and filter change.

To entertain ourselves we went to the Neon Boneyard. The sign is made of letters and parts from other famous signs. The N is from the Nugget, the E from Caesars Palace, the O from Binion’s Horseshoe and the little stars from the Stardust.  Our tour guide Paul is discussing neon in front of the Yucca Motel sign. Apparently neon is charged by the bend in the tubes. This one was expensive. He gave us some history of Las Vegas and some of the casinos and the mob during the tour.

A huge pool playing guy in front of the happy cleaners shirt, that waved it’s arms when turned on. Paul in front of the skull from Treasure Island, which is now only called TI and they have done away with the pirate show.

The magic lantern from Aladdin's, the Stardust sign.  I stayed in the Stardust- it doesn't seem like that long ago, but it is gone now.

The Horseshoe from Binion’s Horseshoe, and the Sahara sign. The duck was at a used car lot.

The Boneyard museum has restored and put some of the historic signs on the streets with the cooperation of the City of Las Vegas. The cowboy and cowgirl are across the street from each other on Fremont Street.  The cocktail glass and Vegas sign are also on Fremont Street.

The slipper from the Silver Slipper. Also on Fremont street is the Heart Attack Grill. We saw it on TV once. If you are over 350 lbs you eat free. You have to put on a hospital gown over your clothes when you go in. The waitress dress as nurses. The food is really rich and really bad for you.

A few of their menu items, the butterfat shake with pure cream, the flatliner fries fried in lard, single, double, triple and quadruple bypass burgers. John liked the Alcohol is good for you nurse. In the window there was the Bacon Bondage t-shirt.

Another restored sign, the old welcome to Las Vegas sign with the horse.
