February 18- 21, 2022 Death Valley Junction, California

 74 and sunny.

Judy, Judy and Bec leaving on a 17 mile hike toward Shoshone today, on their 170 mile Beatty to Badwater hike.  We shopped in Pahrump on our way back to Shoshone. Cupid painted on the ceiling of our room at the Amargosa Hotel.

The old fashioned bathroom in our room. The wardrobe including the blue box with the shoes is painted ont he wall, our bags are in front of it. The antique chair in the corner is real.

Driving into Pahrump. When we got back the neighbor boys visited. We gave them the large blow up snake. They have not been coming around as much. John asked them why and they told him that they are more interested in spending time with their family and their Nintendo, we come in third!

Sunset with no clouds tonight. I am starting an new masterpiece with some birch bark.

Bec and Judy arriving in Shoshone after walking 27 miles and spending one night on the trail. Judy D got in earlier and snuck by and missed the photo. The bottom of the basket has a piece of birch bark in the center.

Ther basket is getting some shape. The pine needles are very dry and brittle and breaking. The bark is very hard to work with. It did not want to curve into this shape, even after soaking and pieces of it break off as I am trying to put the needle through it. But it is coming out looking good.

74 degrees and sunny. I hiked with Judy and Judy from Shoshone to Tecopa. Judy D, Suep and Judy P. They are hiking from Beatty to Badwater along the Amargosa River, 170 miles. Judy and Judy hiking on the salt flats.

Lunch hiking from Shoshone from Tecopa. Judy and Judy hiking from Shoshone to Tecopa.

I love these clay hills along the way. A view of the Resting Springs Range over the salt flats along the way, When it rains the water soaks in and when it evaporates it brings the salt to the surface making these cool formations.

Judy and Judy. The wind was not too bad till about the last mile. The dust was so thick you could barely see Tecopa Mountain.

People driving their off road vehicles on these hills leave these tracks that take decades to go away. The sign says These mud hills have been here for many centuries. Driving cross country in such a delicate environment can cause serious damage and can ruin the scenery for visitors that have not been here before. With your help we can preserve the beauty if these hills by reminding visitors to drive only on open routes. Grimshaw wetlands.

Birds seen in Tecopa. This lovely hot spring pool is right off our room at Tecopa Hot Springs Resort where we spent the night. It was wonderful.

We had dinner at the BBQ and brewery in Tecopa. The food was yummy and beer very good. Sunset from the BBQ.
