February 17-20, Death Valley Junction to Shoshone , California

 74 degrees and sunny.

Sunset from the last two nights.

Eagle Mountain juts up in the middle of the Amargosa valley. We stayed at the Amargosa Hotel to visit with and bring dinner to the Judy's on their hike. They hiked for 4 days from Beatty to get there. They will also spend the night. The historic hotel and opera house are almost 100 years old. Marta Becket bought Death Valley Junction in the 40's, renovated it, painted murals on the walls and opera house and performed opera and ballet here almost until her death in her 80's. It is  now owned by a non profit. They only have funds to keep it running and not to keep it up which is too bad because it is a gem.

The 2 chairs , tables and plant on the table are in a small room, then rest is murals painted on the walls to make it look like a court yard.  The two manly men James and John chatting in the dining room.

John, James and I made and brought dinner up to the 2 hikers, which we are enjoying in the dining room. The hotel no longer has a restaurant. The murals on the walls make it appear to be outside. Judy, John, James and Judy D. A mural on the wall in our room. The backpack, hat, coat, luggage rack and other paraphernalia on the floor are real, the wardrobe and contents are painted on the wall.

More murals in our room. the curtain and air conditioner are real. The chair, gramophone and hat rack are painted on the wall. Our room is called the Swan room because the swan headboard is painted on the wall above the bed.

Judy D and Judy P leaving for the next couple days of their hike to Shoshone. It is 33 degrees, sunny and mild wind. Much better when we saw them off in Beatty. Their final destination is Badwater in Death Valley.

I finished this masterpiece. It is made from dyed pine needles, ornamental grass, polyester thread, glass beads and the center is a piece of glass I fused. It is 10 1/4 x 9 1/4 x 2 1/2 inches.

Sally and Tom came over for dinner. John worked with Tom and they have been living full time in their RV for 7 years. Nice to see them. High of 79 today. I sat in my lawn chair and did artwork. This terrible photo is of raod runner who visited me. He clicked his beak at me.

I found this coyote skull to hang on my sisters house. We decided it needed decorating. 3 earring, some beads and feathers later I hung it out front, Sunset tonight looked like a fire breathing dragon.
