High of 77, partly cloudy. and very smoky.
We drove through Anamoose. The name came from the American's mispronouncing the Chippewa name that mean female dog. We are now camped at Graham Island State Park, on Devils Lake, North Dakota. It is on an island, there was a bridge from the mainland. Not very crowded.
Our view of the lake. John on the hiking trail.
Staghorn sumac. Entwined branches.
The fall colors are lovely.
Wild turkey. Sunflower, sorel, aster, lady bugs (the North Dakota state insect), holey and bumpy trees, staghorn sumac and seeds.
We drove off the island to the town of Devils Lake. Devils lake was also a misconception of the Indian name for it. The Indians called it spirit lake, and white man thought it was bad spirits. It is a natural lake, no dams. We had dinner at Black Paws Brewing in Devils lake. I had the Pink Fluffy unicorns dancing on rainbows. The bar tender recommended it. It was like a sweet soda pop. Pretty hideous for a beer. They also have a pickle beer, which they were out of, because it is so popular. Gross.
John with his smoked IPA. Beautiful, historic downtown Devils Lake.
More auroras last night. It was partly cloudy, real smokey and the view was blocked by numerous trees. The campground has way too many lights for viewing the sky. But the photos came out pretty good.
Auroras.
Auroras. These shapes were morphing and shooting bands of light.
More cool shapes of the aurora. They were moving and shooting bands of light.
The aurora with the motor home and some of the campground lights.
