October 2,-2 2024 Buffalo, South Dakota to Fairfield, North Dakota

High of 77 and sunny. And some smoke.

We are driving on the scenic byway in  South Dakota. This is what it looked like the whole way.  Arriving in Buffalo, South Dakota. Population 356.

I finished this basket today. It is made with dyed pine needles, polyester thread and all the beadwork is from a necklace I got at the thrift shop for 50 cents ( 1/2 price on senior day) and a bear bead. It is 8 x 6 3/4 x 1 1/2 inches. Beautiful, historic, downtown Buffalo, South Dakota.

The most happening spot Buffalo Bar, casino, liquor store and the Blossom Cafe. The happy place is behind either the cafe or the bar. No one was being happy when we went by.  The free Buffalo Museum in a one room school house was closed when we went by.

This is our spot in the Three Toes RV park. Old three toes was a wolf in the area that killed $50,000 worth of stock before he was caught. Welcome to South Dakota, Three toes campground,  Sigh in the covered area, Please do not clean game in parking area or leave carcasses adjacent to road, trails or parking areas. There were a couple dozen of these sharp tailed grouse running around the campground area.

Still seeing smoke from the Elk Fire in the Bighorns. Sunset, with our view from our campsite.

I looked out the front window this morning and our kayaks on top of the truck had grouse on them. We visited Centennial Park, the only attraction listed for Buffalo, ND.

The two most famous things about Buffalo are the three toed wolf and Tipperary, a bronc who was so wild no one could ever ride him. This is a statue of him. A photo of the whole park. Very nice, had a nice synopsis of the history of the area.

I've seen three of these combination RV and ice house here in North Dakota. The wolf statue in Centennial park. The famous wolf from these parts is old three toes. He killed $50,000 worth of livestock before he was finally caught. He only had three toes on one foot from being caught in a trap. This statue has 4 on all 4 feet, so probably not him. Mo's bar and campground in Amidon, White Butte is the highest place in North Dakota, it is 3506 feet tall.  We are actually on our way to the low point of North Dakota. John is going to the low point of each state. They are less crowded than the high points, and you can drive to most of them. The buffalo statue in Centennial park, and a rattlesnake. It is the same kind of rubber snake we have that we put under our steps to discourage people from robbing the bus. Welcome to Bowman, North Dakota, you are in God's country and the picnic table at our site at Oleo Acres. We are still driving on the scenic drive according to the map. There were a few hills and buttes today.

The town of Amidon, North Dakota, what you see is all of it. The scenic drive just got more interesting, an intersection and a couple of trees.

Belfield, the largest town we have seen in days. we got fuel here, it was pretty cheap. We are now camped at Oleo Acres RV park in Fairfield, North Dakota.

The bus at Oleo Acres RV park. Sunset.
