September 11, 2013 Baker Lake, Washington

Another beautiful day in paradise. 70’s, sunny warm, no wind, beautiful lake and mountains. Some one has to do it, so we enjoyed it. We are about the only people in the campground. It is quiet and dark at night. We found out today the the camp ground closer to the dam is free after labor day. There were more people there.

View of Baker from the top of Upper Baker dam.  This contraption is behind the dam. We are not sure what it is, but think it is part of the save the salmon, they catch all the salmon that are going back to the ocean, put them in trucks-fish taxis  and take them past the two dams and the hydroelectrics and put them in  the Skagit river.

The power house and the gorge leaving the dam. After viewing the dam we put our kayaks in the lake and paddled, swam and had lunch. Reflections on the water

A feather and it’s reflection on the ripples on the lake. Canada geese swimming toward Baker mountain.  It was a couple adults and a bunch of juvenile  geese. We theorize that the adults are teaching the youngsters how to fly. It is pretty funny.

Looking at the Noisy Diobsud wilderness on  those peaks. No idea what the name means, but the Noisy and the Diobsud creeks run out of there. On the other side of the wilderness is North Cascades National park.  We had ;the lake to ourselves, no other people until you get back to the boat ramp. About once an hour a motor boat would go by, then it was silent again. only about 2 motor boats on the lake.  the boat ramp was really low and hard to get to and there are tons of submerge stumps just under the surface. When we put in one of the sleek go fast boats was being paddled in, with one paddle. the guys think they hit a stump. There was not a breath of wind, the lake was smooth. We just glided on this. The bus, the only campers in the campground.
