They are still predicting rain, but it has not come yet. We went up to look at the Diablo town site and the Diablo dam.
This is a replica of the first power made in the Skagit river valley. It was used to produce electricity for an 11 room lodge. The Diablo dam was built in the 1930’s. It is 398 feet tall and at the time it built it was the tallest arch dam in the world. Arch dams are built in narrow rocky locations and is curved inward. When the weight of the water presses n the dam the pressure is transferred along the curved walls of the dam to large abutments on each side of the dam. It has old fashioned street lamps on the top. We could even drive on it. Has nice arches at the top.
The Diablo Dam from the lake side. The lake has that cool glacial blue color. It almost looks fake to me. Trees on the peninsula trail along the lake, with the blue water in the background.
The lake was so cool that I just had to boat on it. The color was not a blue when I was right on top of it, more green. Some views of the peaks and glaciers from the lake.
A close up of one of the views. These ducks were on the lake, I scared them up when I got close.
John dropped me off at the waterfall and trail of the cedars to walk back to camp. There is a suspension bridge over the Skajet river. The Cedars were huge. Here is some moss on the trail. Very green.
A close up of the moss, it was just hanging off the rock. The visitors center sign.
John relaxed at camp while I walked back. Then cooked dinner. Some maple seeds seen by the waterfall.
