To get to the Mt Baker Scenic highway it is necessary to go back to civilization. It was kind of a shock.
We stopped at Costco to resupply and also had the oil in the generator changed in Bellingham, WA. This used car dealer had a woman stuck in the engine.
As we got farther away from the city we had to share the road with tractors, we were back in farming country. This air stream trailer is the Hairstream hair salon, with a ski fence in Glacier.
John was delighted, he found a beer shrine, here he is worshiping at it. North Fork brewery, pizzeria, beer shrine, wedding chapel and beer museum. You can get married either in the bar, the beer garden or brewery. The owner is licensed to perform weddings. We talked about renewing our vows, John would love to get married in a brewery. We had dinner inside, cheese sticks they called them, pizza crust with cheese and herbs on it and marina dipping sauce. And of course beer. It was much cheaper than the pizzas and very good. The 4 men to the other side of John are loggers having drinks after work.
The bus is parked at the Douglas Fir campground. We got the last first come first serve spot that fit the bus. Good timing. The rest of the sites are reserved for the weekend. Horseshoe bend trail starts at the campground and goes along the Nooksack river. It is prime salmon spawning habitats. One of the few rivers that is not damned. It is also a favorite river runners run when the water is higher. The water is more white and milky than the other glacial streams we saw- which were blue.
Evening light from Horseshoe bend trail, and Suep with a big leaf maple leaf.
