November 3-5, 2023 La Push, Olympic National Park to Ocean City State Park, Washington

High of 56 and amazingly partly sunny- not predicted. Then rain and high wind in the evening

I got up early to catch the low tide on Rialto Beach. If it is anything other than low tide you either have to crawl over huge logs the whole way or get wet and smashed against them.  It was predicted to be cloudy and rainy. I woke up to a sunrise. View from the bus at sunrise

Rialto Beach. It is made up of black rocks, mostly tiny, but many bigger round flat rocks. Very pretty. John rounding one of the big logs. At higher tides you can't get around these.

John rounding one of the big logs. At higher tides you can't get around these. It was partly cloudy and shade on he beach, so most of the photos are kind of black and white. Too bad, lovely beach.

To the lower right  of this photo is Hole in the rock. Last time we hike this beach the tide was low enough that you could walk through it. This time the tide was not really very low and we could not. Here is a photo of 2015 of John walking though Hole in the rock  when the tide was lower.

Cool sea stacks on the way back. To cross Mosquito creek we had to climb over these logs.

We watched a couple people try to cross, but the turned back when it was knee deep. I think it was thigh deep in the middle. John climbing over logs. I decided to take the side closer to the creek and the logs were wet and slippery like black ice. I had to crawl and shimmy between togs. I was covered with mud when I emerged.

Mosquito  creek and logs.  A camp on the beach. Many people backpack the whole coast 50 miles of wilderness.

Rained all last night with gale force winds again. A high of 59, still high winds and mostly cloudy and partly rainy. Some pre-sunset light through a beach log. Sunset. The ocean was wild all day. High tide at sunset was up to the beach logs.

Drove through rain and fog down south to Ocean City State Park, Washington on the beach. The bus in our site.

Walking through a shrub tunnel to the beach, John's coat blends right in. The beach is long wide and flat. Has cars driving on it. This is a river  going into the ocean. If you look close in the back ground you can see some waves. It was windy, damp and cool. We needed more clothes to actually walk on the beach.

We can forage mushroom, but only 2 gallons a day. Or crabs, we are still in tsunami zone and my person favorite Beach logs can kill. I would not want to be in the surf with the huge logs on the beach up here. Meanwhile back in Denver at the Echter's glass show my jewels won a few ribbons.

A close up of the jewels. And my aspen plate got an award of excellence. I am very pleased.
