The sun came out today! It was glorious. We hiked the Cape Arago trail. It is 4 miles each direction. We only hiked ab out 7 and a half miles, we got hypnotized watching giant waves. Most of the trail is along the cliff edge. This trail is the reason I wanted to come back to this area.
There is a light house in the far background. It is on an island and there is no public access to it. A stream dropping down into the ocean.
John liked to stand right in the spray. He is standing at the top of an 80 foot cliff, so the wave is 100 feet tall. Awesome. The trail goes through Shore Acres State Park. It was the estate of the Simpsons. He was a lumber barren . They owned the whole cape and had a huge house, which later burnt down. The gardens still remain and are really cool. Quite a contrast to the wild waves.
Another garden shot. The salal flowers are wild but the rest were in the Shore Acres garden.
The trail went along the cliffs and then down by the beaches in between. Some how the huge waves did not go to the beaches. You could stand down there and watch waves from the bottom. John hiking in the sunshine. It is a deep dark forest back from the cliffs.
Wind blown trees. Huge waves. I took 500 photos of the waves. I had to choose a couple for here.
In the first photo if you look real close at the edge of the cliff you will see some railings with people behind them. Gives you an idea how big these waves are. The second photo is looking over from that point with the railing.
Giant wave and the rainbow in the spray. I have never seen waves this big anywhere else.
Waves.
The waves got bigger closer to sunset. The colors were lovely.
Between big waves and the same view with waves.
Sunset over the light house.
