May 5-6, 2022, Cape Arago, Oregon

High of 58, raining, hard at times, high winds.

We drove up to Cape Arago, just west of Coos Bay today, in the bad weather.  We are now parked at Oceanside RV resort and campground. Not too crowded. We drove by the Sunset Beach State Park, it is full and it looked like a zoo. This is Sunset Beach. There are two surfers out there.

We stopped at Shore Acres. The reason we love it here so much are the HIGE waves. Amazing. The water was just boiling with energy and massive waves would splash up 50 feet in the air when they hit the rocks.

More big waves. Simpson Reef. There are a bunch of seas and sea otters on it. When the waves and wind are not so loud you can hear them barking.

The overlook at the tip of Cape Argo has this lovely view to the south. There are tide pools you can hike down to at low tide. It is currently high tide. The wind was wicked out here. John leaning into the wind.

Iris at the RV park. The campground is right on this nice beach.

Today was 58. It was high winds and lots of rain, so we dressed for it and when out. Of course the sun came out and we were over dressed. The waves were wonderful. We are standing on a cliff about 50 feet high, and the waves were above it.

Another wave over a colorful cliff. John peeking around a pillar at Shore Acres botanical garden.

Japanese pond with heron sculptures in the water at the Shore Acres garden. Simpson Beach from above.

Trail down to Simpson Beach, John on Simpson Beach.

Cool rock formations and waves. We sat in the sand and watched wave after wave after wave.

Another wave. On a point looking north.

John on the trail along the cliff edge. A bunny in the garden, beach crow, flowers in the garden and a cool painting at the brewery.

Small waterfall on the cliff. We checked out the new 7 Devils brewery. We had been to the old one. this one is bigger, on the waterfront and has more food. And excellent beer.

Almost a sunset through the clouds at the beach back at the campground.
